Ajrakh is an age-old tradition practiced in Ajrakhpur, a village in the Kutch district of Gujarat. This fine art includes a detailed process of resist-printing and dyeing using intricate hand-carved wooden blocks. Ajrakh printing is a tedious & lengthy process involving several stages of printing and washing the fabric over and over again with various natural dyes and mordants such as harda, lime, alizarin, indigo and even camel dung. As only natural dyes are used we can see only earthy shades such as black, indigo, mustard, maroon etc. in authentic Ajrakh products.
Sarees are dyed using traditional methods hence they are
not as bright as seen in pictures.
Pictures are clicked in daylight but difference in shade might appear slightly due to different viewing devices
Wash care : Dry clean only.
Handcrafted products tend to bleed out excess colour in initial washes.
Little imperfections in colour like stains, patches and irregularities in design are inherent to the handmade products and outcome of human involvement. That is what makes each handmade product unique.
